semantic and pragmatic is the study of meaning, semantics is the science of steel in which it studies linguistics or lingual signs. some terms used are semiotics, semiology, semasiology and semetics. whereas pragmatic is the relationship between language and the context in how the speaker or writer expresses meaning.

    2. Yes i think so. As i see it, pragmatic is the interaction of language knowledge with our knowledge of the world to produce meaningful communication in context of use. In pragmatism we can express ourselves in each of our languages and cultures.

    3. I simply must agree with that, if pragmatics more interesting than semantic andaI felt it. Because the discussion of pragmatics is broader than semantic. Pragmatics explains how language users can overcome clear ambiguity because meaning depends on the way, place, time, etc. of speech. Than, by learning pragmatic, hopely when someone talks to us with pragmatics sentence, we understand and know well what does he/she mean.

  2. Yes, of course. Because pragmatic is utterance. I mean when someone say "I miss you ". Perhaps, it's ambiguity. Is it pragmatic or semantic?. Whereas, someone always meet him/her everytime.

    1. but, there are also many people who misunderstand about the true meaning of a pragmatic, how easy is it to find out the true meaning of a pragmatic?

    2. Yasir, in my opinion, we can know some statements are pragmatic by looking at how the word is used in a given place and time.

    3. Basically, to know the true meaning of pragmatics, you can see it depends on their context. For example: "he was so hungry he could eat the whole table". In this context (pragmatics) 'he was very hungry so he should to eat foods right away'.while in semantics it means that 'he was hungry so he eats the table'

  3. in my opinion it is pragmatic, because pragmatic here is to examine the meaning of the speaker, whereas semantic only sense sentences, but if in pragmatic we examine the intent of the speaker,

    1. Yes i agree with you sri, i think that sentence 'i miss you' have pragmatics meaning. Why? Because it express what the speaker felt. That means it has the deepest meaning to the speaker. Perhaps, the speaker really wants to meet someone at that time no matter they always meet everytime.

    2. In pragmatic also we can understand how the context talking about, but in the Semantic we only understand the meaning of the text

    2. "I heart you!"

Semantically, "heart" refers to an organ in our body that pumps blood and keeps us alive. However, pragmatically, "heart" in this sentence means "love"-hearts are commonly used as a symbol for love, and to "heart" someone has come to mean that you love someone.

    3. "Will you crack open the door? I am getting hot."
In semantic, "crack" would mean to break, but in pragmatic we know that the speaker means to open the door just a little to let in some air enter.

  5. Hello fellas. As Mr. Dhafid said last week, that pragmatic is more interesting than semantic because of one and any other reasons. I remember when Mr. Dhafid gave us the example of pragmatic "there's the student who come late, than the teacher said 'what time is it?' actually the teacher do not really wanna know about the time, but that sentence means satirize the student who come late". In my opinion, that kinda sentence is relate with the figure of speech "irony", isn't it?

    1. That’s exactly what I think. Yaa of course, because ironi was a purely pragmatic phenomenon. So, that pragmatic sentence which you told, relate to irony.

    2. So that, can you tell me what are the difference between pragmaticism and irony?

      Hapus
    3. According Richard Rorty’s said pragmatism to contemporary criminology through the lens of ontology and criminological theory, epistemology and methodological decision making, and irony in the neo-liberal academy.

    1. in my opinion semantic and oragmatic is a branch of linguistics that both examines the meanings of lingual units. the difference is that the semantics of learning linguistic meanings or meanings are internal, whereas pragmatics learns the meaning of speakers or are external in relation to the context. and this is very important learning that must be learned and understood by students in learning a language especially English education students.

    2. Semantics is concerned with the study of meaning and is related to both philosophy and logic. But pragmatic is Pragmatics is the study of language from the point of view of usage. The meaning depends on the user
